National Day of Prayer Breakfast
There's something special about starting the day together in prayer. Recently, on the National Day of Prayer, our community gathered at Horizon Church for a morning of worship, reflection, and fellowship — coming together with a shared hope for our city and one another.
Mike Kuypers welcomed everyone as Master of Ceremonies, setting a tone of warmth and gratitude that carried through the morning. The MLK Community Choir lifted the room with worship, and we paused to pray over the real needs of San Diego County — our neighbors, our families, and our future. A youth-led prayer segment was a quiet highlight, a reminder that this hope belongs to the next generation too.
We were grateful for the voices who shared with us that morning:
Commander Mike Kuypers (USN, ret.), who served our country for 20 years with the Naval Special Warfare Community and now pours that same dedication into serving San Diego.
Pastor Ken Anderson, whose Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Choir San Diego fills every room with gospel, spirituals, and anthems — all while raising funds to send students into college and the arts.
Rod Gilbert, Head of Schools at Santa Fe Christian, who brings a shepherd's heart and a deep commitment to the students and families in his care.
Kevin Faulconer, former Mayor of San Diego and a partner of the San Diego Leadership Forum.
Pastor Bob Botsford, lead pastor of Horizon Church, whose ministry has touched countless lives across North County San Diego.
As the morning closed with a benediction, we left encouraged — reminded that prayer brings a community closer together. We're grateful to everyone who joined us, and we look forward to gathering again.
